Greece have qualified for the knockout rounds as one of the four group winners. Vassilis Spanoulis’s men won four of five group matches in Group C, with their only loss being a close 80-77 setback to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Seeking a first podium finish on the continental stage since 2009, Greece have dominated on both ends of the floor. They sit in the top six in both defence and offence, averaging 70 points in the former and 86 in the latter.
Greece defeated defending champions Spain 90-86 to close out their group campaign.
Israel have ended a decade-long wait for a knockout round appearance at the EuroBasket. Silver medalists in 1979, Israel last qualified out of their group in the 2015 edition.
Coached by Ariel Beit-Halahmy, the Blue and White scraped through Group D, finishing fourth with three wins from five. Israel, who won the most recent meeting with Greece earlier in the year, are coming off a 106-96 loss to Slovenia.
Deni Avdija has been Israel’s go-to guy. He will be key again if they are to secure a first competitive victory over Greece in more than 30 years.
